Wet Utilities
Wet utilities are buried, tested, and unforgiving. The work is inspected while it is open and judged by whether it holds pressure, drains, and passes bacteriological clearance.
There is no cosmetic version of a failed pressure test.
Buried work with a pass or fail at the end
Every wet utility scope ends in a test. Pressure and leakage on water, mandrel and air or water on sewer, disinfection and bacteriological clearance before service. Those tests are the whole point, and failing one means excavating work you already backfilled and repeating steps that consume weeks of schedule.
So the discipline is upstream: bedding to specification, correct pipe handling, proper joint assembly, thrust restraint where the detail calls for it, and backfill and compaction that will not settle over the trench and take the paving with it.

Existing utilities are the schedule risk
Record drawings in developed corridors are frequently wrong. A main that appears on the plan two feet from where it actually sits will stop a crew for a day at best. We pothole critical crossings before we start rather than discovering them with a bucket, which is both cheaper and considerably safer.
Shutdowns and tie-ins
Connecting to a live system means a shutdown window agreed with the district weeks in advance, usually short, usually at night, and unforgiving. A tie-in that does not complete inside its window is not merely late, it is a service interruption affecting customers. We plan those with a contingency for the part that does not fit.
District standards differ
Southern California water and sewer agencies each maintain their own standard specifications and details, and the differences are not trivial. Bedding sections, pipe materials, restraint requirements, and testing procedures all vary. We build to the standard of the agency with jurisdiction.

Documentation of trench section and compaction, which is what prevents the settlement that ruins new paving.

Actual alignment, depth, and appurtenance locations recorded while the trench is open.
Agency acceptance package
Test results, materials certifications, and documentation assembled to the district's specific checklist.
Questions we get on this scope
Do you work under district standard specifications?
Always. We build to the standards of the agency with jurisdiction rather than to a generic detail. Where a plan detail conflicts with the district standard we raise it before construction, because the district inspector will enforce their standard regardless of what the plan shows.
What happens if a pressure test fails?
We locate and repair it. It is our cost when the cause is our workmanship, and we would rather find it in testing than after service. The reason we invest in joint assembly and restraint discipline is precisely that testing is unforgiving.
Can you work in a live street?
Yes. Traffic control, lane closures, business and resident access, and night work restrictions all come with urban utility work. We price and permit them as part of the scope, not as an afterthought.
Do you handle trenchless installation?
We coordinate boring, jacking, and pipe bursting through specialty subcontractors under our contract where the alignment or a crossing requires it. Open cut is our own work.
